WHY THEY SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED
So many people feel like they are being taken for granted by people they admire, love, or care for. It becomes a painful thing for them as they yearn to be acknowledged in some small way.
The unfortunate thing is they do not get their wish.
They ask themselves the question: what else should I do? I’ve done everything I know how, yet nothing seems to work.
The place that they least expect to see a similar behavior is in the workplace. Yet, to their dismay, it does. When this happens, it’s a reflection of a leadership issue.
What some leaders fail to realize is that their people chose to work where they did and they should be treated as such and not be taken for granted.
COST OF REPLACEMENT IS HIGH
The estimated cost of replacing an employee is about 20% of their salary according to a study by the Center for American Progress. In some cases, it could be even higher.
But it’s not only the monetary cost. It’s the qualitative cost as well.
It’s hard to put a cost on or replace a talented, dependable, and influential employee.
Leaders who take their people for granted is shortsighted and will eventually become a liability to the organization or company as these quality people go elsewhere.
To change this, leaders could simply begin with the frequent acknowledgment of the efforts put forth by their workers each and every day. Simply saying thanks and expressing appreciation, are two ways to change this
