IS QUALITY TIME ON THE WAY OUT?

Some people find it difficult to interact with others when they feel they are being rushed. They don’t like the fact that someone cannot take a few minutes of their time to talk/engage with them.

Have you noticed that?

One of the complaints I often hear from someone who doesn’t want to do “life” in a rush is that people are so busy that the most important things of life are getting pushed to the side, namely relationships.

I do agree that they do have a point.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND QUALITY TIME

I’ve not seen more distracted, busy, and impersonal nations of people as I see in the Western world. I see it a lot in the United States, but I know it is more widespread. It is an epidemic especially since Social Media has become almost a way of life.

The people who find it most irritating are those who are into relationships. They feel that much is communicated when you spend time with another person and have personal discussions. It is more meaningful to them.  And in their mind, it communicates importance, value, and caring.

I cannot argue with that.

I think face to face communication is a lost art today.

The rise of social media has made us more antisocial. The term suggests that we should be growing in our social aptitudes yet my experience is quite the opposite.

It is very difficult to communicate through one of the most important aspects of interaction—body language—via social media. How many misunderstandings have occurred because of the missing emotional component of social media conversations? I would say a lot.

EMOJIS AND QUALITY TIME

No amount of emojis is going to help. BTW: emojis according to dictionary.com is a small digital image or icon used to express an idea, emotion, etc., in electronic communication.

I must admit that not everyone is disturbed when communication is done on-the-go. As a matter of fact, some people prefer to get on a quick call, use text messages, emails or other forms of media to avoid face to face conversation.

MICROWAVE SOCIETY AND QUALITY TIME

Many of them are so conditioned by this microwave society where they want everything done NOW!

Have you ever been on the internet and had to wait for 3-seconds for a response to a search you triggered and noticed how annoyed and agitated you become because of how looooooong it takes…3-seconds? 😃

I have.

And sometimes I would rather have a quick conversation than sitting down for what seems like a long drawn out session. Most people who have a history with others like this, avoid those moments as they would the plague.

They become anxious when they are being asked to slow down and give some time to a conversation.

Imagine having someone on your team or in your family who is wired to wanting to have a sit-down kind of conversation so that they can feel important, cared for, and valued. What would happen when they are not able to get that kind of interaction?

I would like to hear your thoughts on this. What do you think the results might be?
