In this episode my guest Dr. Robert Shaw shares his thoughts on the core longings of the heart and their meanings. He points out the consequences of the heart not getting the attention it deserves as it pertains to these lonFind Your Passiongings. He also talks about passion and how you can find your passion by identifying your pet peeves. This insight alone, makes listening to this episode a must-listen.

Dr. Shaw’s Brief Bio:

Dr. Robert B. Shaw, Jr. is a Licensed Professional Counselor, dually licensed in Virginia and North Carolina, and is a National Board Certified Counselor. He is also an ordained minister, serving as a youth pastor, Christian education director, adult education director, musician, and executive pastor in churches in New Jersey, Colorado, Maryland, and currently in North Carolina, for over 35 years. He has also been a middle school and high school teacher and athletic coach in both the public and private school environments.

Dr. Shaw has spent several years counseling in church settings and community agencies and with military personnel and their families near Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and specializes in trauma-related issues, addictions, victims of abuse, depression, anxiety disorders, life adjustment issues, loss and grief, counseling church leaders and pastors, adolescents, and adults.

Dr. Shaw is a unique, prophetic voice in the kingdom, caring for hurting people and serving as an adjunct professor for a Christian university, an author, and a conference speaker.

Dr. Shaw and his wife, Lorinda, have been married since 1978, and have raised five children together. He also enjoys running, sports, the beach, traveling, and spending time with family. He is uniquely trained theologically and psychologically to use that experience in practical application of concepts for inner healing, mental health and Christian living.

Here are the core longings he shared:

1. To be loved and being able to express it

2. Need to feel safe and secure especially in relationships

3. Have a purpose … what are we here for?

4. A desire to be understood

5. Having a sense of belonging to someone

6. A need for significance .. to know who we are .. our identity

Dr. Shaw made some additional comments as outlined below.

Happiness is a fleeting experience. It’s not meant to be a lasting state of being

Entrepreneurial spirit could be a blessing and a curse .. driven and never satisfied

Every passion we have is been given by God and need to be lined up with my calling

What they really Need; Peace and contentment

When passion is lined up what calling it leads to contentment and a happier living.
