CHANGE WHAT YOU ARE

I’m not sure you have listened to much of one of the most prolific speakers of our time – the late Zig Ziglar. If you did you would have heard him say these words quite often and only in the way he could:

“You are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind. You can change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind” ~ Zig Ziglar

Wow!

Imagine, according to Zig, we can change what’s going on in our lives.

DON’T BE A NAYSAYER

I know there are the naysayers who immediately would react to these words with skepticism. I’m glad you are not one of those who do. If you did, you would not be reading this blog.

The skeptics are comfortable with where they are and do not want to be disturbed.Complaining is easier for them. Leave them alone. 😃

I hope you never give into that spirit.

I was listening to a recent audio of Tony Robbins. You may not be a Tony Robbins fan, but for now, put that aside as I try to drive home this point.

In this talk, he alluded to the fact that where you are and where you want to be is separated by one thing—A DECISION. If you’ve ever listened to him, you know that he can be quite forceful in his talks. He is very confident in his delivery and in essence, who he is.

I paused when I heard that: what separates me from what I want is a decision? That’s it?

As I pondered that, I had to agree with him.

If I want something really bad and make a decision to go after it, I can make it happen. I’ve had that happen on so many occasions. And I’m sure you have as well.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE GOALS

What I found most interesting from the talk by Tony Robbins was the importance of goal setting. He said that the main idea of deciding on what you really want in life is to SET GOALS THAT INSPIRE YOU.

He went on to say that you need to state the outcome of your goals in positive terms: say what you want to happen not the other way around.

Again, you may see this as hocus-pocus as some people do. But look at the results.

So “You are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind. You can change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind.”

AN EXPERIMENT

Here’s my challenge to you; do an experiment by:

  • setting a goal on something you want to accomplish
  • make a decision that you MUST accomplish that goal
  • take an action step towards your goal
  • F.O.C.U.S—Follow One Course Until Success

You will only do this if what you have is not what you want. If you don’t do it, it’s because you want what you have.
