How do you as a leader handle the issue of racism within your workplace? Is it too hot a topic that you would rather avoid? Avoidance is not a good strategy.

+++ TOO HOT TO HANDLE +++

There was a game I played a few times called Hot Potatoes. Have you ever played it?

It was mainly done in a circle.

Someone would have a ball and throw it to anyone in the circle but they must first call out the other person’s name. It is a team-building activity.

The point is to handle the ball like a hot potato and try to get rid of it as quickly as you can. If the leader shouted out “hot potato,” the person’s hand that the ball was in last, is out of the game.

As time goes on, the circle shrinks until there are two people left.

They would go back and forth until the lone-survivor remains standing and obviously, declared the winner.

Even though the topic of today’s episode isn’t about a winner, the principle of how to handle a hot potato, is very relevant and you’ll see why as you listen to this episode.

The topic of racism can be a hot topic that if not handled properly, can leave severe “burn” scars.

The question is, how do you handle it?

That’s what you’ll hear in today’s episode. You’ll discover a number of DOs and DON’Ts.
