In this episode, Joanne Miller discuss what it means to be the wife of an incredible successful entrepreneur. She revealed how maintaining what is today, the lost art of commitment – was the main core value that kept her going. Even in the face of losing her home, vehicles and at times resentment for her husband – Dan Miller, Founder of 48Days – to have gone against her counsel.
Joanne Miller’s Brief Bio:
I am a writer, poet, author, speaker, artist and sounding board for 48 Days, LLC. Although I don’t hold an active role in the day-to-day activities with 48 Days anymore, I am very involved in helping teach some of the conferences with my husband Dan Miller, Founder of 48Days, LLC.
Here’s some of the points Joanne made in this interview about the lost art of commitment:
- Make sure you have the support of your spouse
- Commitment to making the relationship a priority is the prerequisite for success
- Blending the personality
- Guarding against resentment because of the losses … I had warned him … So I blamed him
- My love and belief in him caused me to overcome the resentment
- IRS took all we have
- Start all over … 12 years to come out of the hole
- Crisis doesn’t have to be a negative … All our experiences is now being used to help others. It was the foundation of the 48 days business
- Learned so much from it … Not wanting a repeat but would not change it
- Life is learning rather than life is hard
- You bring more of the difficulty in your life with your language – life is hard
- Being thankful is one of the best way to combat the difficulties
- My happiness has to come from within.
- My midlife crisis … Facing empty-nest syndrome… Depression …what now?
- Diagnosis of multiple sclerosis during the midlife crisis.
- Introspection … Decide what is going to define my life – MS no! Mudlife – No!
- With counseling and other resources, I found my path.
- Art classes. Discipline. Something for me. Never drawn before. Stayed with it for 12 years. A whole new world became open to me. I became an artist.
- It’s all a growth process
- This keeps me young … Never get to the point where you’ve stopped growing
- What’s in you that you have not pulled out? Was it something that has been quenched by a teacher, pastor or well intended leader?
- Be a learner and an explorer.
- Take commitment seriously
- “It takes introspection in order to really find happiness in your life.”
